Protesters continued to take to the streets Sunday following a mass demonstration across the country Saturday, demanding federal immigration officers be removed from their communities following the killing of Minneapolis woman Renee Good.

  • A mass wave of protesters flooded the streets of Midtown Manhattan in New York with upside-down American flags, banners reading “Abolish ICE” and a drawing of Good, the Minneapolis woman killed by a federal immigration officer. Outside the doors of Trump Tower, protesters chanted: “Every fascist nation falls.”
  • Smaller demonstrations took place in Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, where local officials, including newly elected mayor Katie Wilson, spoke at the protest.
  • In metro Atlanta and Los Angeles, protesters waved anti-ICE signs and chanted on the sidewalks of a busy intersection; cars blared their horns, zipping past them. Minneapolis is miles away from metro Atlanta, but people showed up because they believe ICE went too far and is a threat to public safety, said Steve Killian, Indivisible Cobb (County) chapter spokesperson.
  • “A threat to one person, one American anywhere, is a threat to us all,” he said.
  • At Good’s memorial in Minneapolis, people were armed with more than just signs. Protesters came with instruments as they sang about unity and joy, their breaths visible as it mixed with the cold Minneapolis air. Good’s memorial had become a place for music to be echoed throughout the streets.
